Shamrocks v.Clashmore 1st round Hurling league 8/4/2023.
Shamrocks Intermediate hurlers opened their 2023 hurling league account with a
hard fought one point win over Clashmore in Knockanore last Friday evening. The
visitors got off to the better start getting the first four points without reply before
Kieran Crawford opened Shamrocks’ account. Liam Motherway got another
sandwiched between two points for Clashmore to leave the score 6 points to 2
after around 15 minutes. Slowly but surely Shamrocks got into the game and
points from Edward Lonergan, Kieran and Cathal Herlihy brought Shamrocks right
back, and then Stephen Roche put the ball in the net in a goalmouth scramble and
we hit the front for the first time. Kieran finished the scoring of the first half to
leave the half time score 1-7 to 0-9. The first half was marred by a serious knee
injury to Ivan O’Neill who was very unfortunate to get his leg caught in the
ground. We can only wish Ivan a speedy recovery, but he’s got plenty of time
ahead of him.
Once again Clashmore started the second half a bit better with 2 points, but
points from Kieran, Shane Roche and four from Colm Roche gave us a narrow one
point win. Special mention to Ciarán Lenehan and Adam McSweeney who made
their debut for the Shamrocks and had excellent games. Final score Shamrocks 1-
13, Clashmore 0-15.
