Michael Tobin Cup

On Tuesday night we took on Midleton in the Michael Tobin Cup in Knockanore. Shamrock started the game well with the aid of a strong breeze. Along with a well taken goal from Colm Roche they added 12 first half points to lead at the break on a score line of 1:12 to 0:08.

MIdleton started eating into the lead right from the start, scoring 1:03 in the first five minutes with the Midleton keeper reaching the opposition square with his puckouts. The sides exchanged scores back and forth with both sides putting their nose ahead at times but they could not be separated at the final whistle.

The game went straight to a penalty shoot out on agreement of both clubs with Midleton winning 5 to 4. 1)Cathal Hunt, 2)Chris Murphy, 3)Brian Harnedy, 4) Jason Ahearne, 5) Adam Crawford, 6) Shane Roche (0-1), 7) Sean Meaney, 8) Padraig Hynes (0-3), 9) Eoghan Lenehan, 10) Adam McSweeney, 11) Kieran Crawford (0-2), 12) Colm Roche (1-13), 13) Edward Lonergan, 14) Edward Hynes (0-3), Liam Murphy, Shane Harnedy, Kelvyn O Farrell, Ciarán Lenehan. Junior C Hurling Championship v.Ardmore 16/7/2023.
Shamrocks 0-12, Ardmore 2-13.
Shamrocks Junior hurlers began the championship season for the club with defeat
to Ardmore in a windswept Ardmore last Saturday. Playing against a very strong
wind Shamrocks settled well and points from Kelvyn O Farrell and Sean Murphy
gave us an early advantage. However Ardmore grew into the game and steadily
gained the upper hand mainly from frees, and they finished the half with a goal
and three points to lead 1-7 to 0-2 at the break.
We needed a quick start with the wind, and Ciarán Lenehan did just that with a
free, but then the home side hit 3 points (2 frees) to leave us with a ten point
deficit to make up. It was then that some of our younger players really stood up.
Ciarán Lenehan pulled 3 points back with 2 frees and one sensational score from
play, Adam McSweeney who was excellent all through thundered into the game,
and Stephen Roche added two points in a row with another from Ciarán Hunt to
leave 5 points between the sides. Ardmore hit another point to get it back to six
again. Kelvyn and Adam then got us to 4 points, and despite some excellent play
we couldn’t get the goal we needed, and instead it was Ardmore who finished
with a goal and point to leave us seven points down at the end. To be fair Ardmore
were the better team on the day but we can rue a few missed frees and goal
chances that could have made a difference. But it was a good effort from the lads,
and the younger lads especially like Ciarán Adam and Stephen played very well
indeed.
Panel; Liam Murphy, Jason Ahearne, Tommy O Donovan, Chris Murphy, Adam
McSweeney (0-1), Shane Harnedy, Keegan O Farrell, Ciarán Hunt(0-1), Cathal
Herlihy, Ciarán Lenehan (0-5), Stephen Roche (0-2), Cathal Hunt, Kelvyn O Farrell
(0-2), Sean Murphy (0-1), Martin Delaney, Bernie Kelleher, Alan Kelly, Colin
Savage.
