Club Notes – 15th December 2013

Club Lotto.
The numbers drawn in last Saturday’s lotto draw were 5-6-15-20, and there was no winner. €20 winners were Donna Buckley, John Fitzgerald, John & Chloe, Paddy Geary, A. Ballow. Next week’s jackpot will be €13,900, moving upwards steadily.

Annual General Meeting.
The 61st Annual General Meeting of C.L.G. na Seamroga took place last Friday night in Knockanore and was well attended. Chairman Liam Ahearne welcomed everyone and gave a summary of the year gone by. Secretary Ann O’ Keeffe also read her report which was well received. Next to speak was Treasurer Johnny Baldwin who was delivering his 44th treasurers report which on it’s own is nothing short of extraordinary. As usual it was very comprehensive and highlighted how responsible this job has now become in a G.A.A. club and how much money goes through the books in a year. We are very fortunate to have a man of Johnny’s ability at the helm, thankfully the club is in good health financially, but expenses continue to rise as the cost of training and physio doesn’t come cheap. The next item was the election of officers, and with all officers going forward again the lineup remains as Hon President Fr. Pat Condon, Chairman Liam Ahearne, Vice Chairman James Tobin, Secretary Ann O’ Keeffe, assistant Secretary Padraig Tobin, Treasurer Johnny Baldwin, P.R.O. Frank Roche, Membership officers Dan Casey and Kieran Ahearne, Registrar Mark Baldwin, First Aid Tim Lenehan and Liam Casey, A.S.A.P. and Children’s officer Frank Roche. The vice presidents and committee members remain as were. Teams to be entered in the coming year are Intermediate hurling and Junior hurling, and this year we are entering a Junior A and a Junior B football team also. Intermediate hurling selectors Pat Clancy, Mike Leahy, and Frank Roche, Pat Clancy will also train and coach the team. Junior hurling selectors to be picked later. Junior football selectors (both teams), Jimmy O’ Neill, Michael Neville, and Joe Ahearne. After some lively discussions the meeting ended and Chairman Liam Ahearne wished everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas and good fortune in the New Year.

5 Year Plan.
The club has been very busy in the last few weeks preparing our 5 year plan which Croke Park has requested from all clubs in the country. Last Tuesday night we presented our plan along with four other clubs in the Lismore Hotel. Sean Murphy was the man given the duty of doing the powerpoint presentation, and he did an excellent job, definitely one of the best presentations on the night. Well done to Sean and all who contributed to the project. A booklet outlining the plan is available from any committee member if anyone wishes to see it.

Christmas Greetings.
2013 is all but spent, 2014 beckons, and we can look back on the year as a mixture of brilliant highs like Waterford’s first All Ireland title in 21 years with our own Colm Roche an integral part of the victory, lows like losing to eventual champions Ardmore in hurling and to Colligan in the Western Football final, definite progress for both hurling teams and the football team, a year when summer finally came and the Troika left ( hopefully for good), the Pylons loom large quite possibly through our own parish (not if we can help it), selfies, top ups, sminky shorts and Keano were the buzz words, but from a Shamrocks perspective, as we celebrated our 60th year of existence, we can look forward to next year with confidence. So to all our players, members, supporters, all who were married, engaged, had children, etc.etc. and everyone associated with the club have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A special thanks to all the local papers who publish our notes each week, your help and cooperation is much appreciated.
