Intermediate Football Championship Final

Shamrocks were crowned County Intermediate Football Champions following a superb 2-16 to 0-8 victory over Fenor at a sun-drenched Walsh Park on Saturday. The win completes a remarkable rise for the club, securing back-to-back county titles and promotion to Premier Intermediate football for 2027. Having defeated Dungarvan and Butlerstown to claim Western and County Junior honours last year, Shamrocks repeated the achievement at Intermediate level with victories over Ballinacourty and Fenor.

After surviving several closely contested encounters earlier in the championship, Seanie Murphy’s charges saved their finest display for the biggest occasion. Shamrocks took control from the outset, with their work rate, fitness and teamwork laying the foundations for an impressive performance. Adam Crawford opened the scoring, while captain Stephen Lucy, John Paul Lucy, Billy Hynes, Kieran Crawford and Tom Dalton also contributed as Shamrocks established a 1-6 to 0-3 half-time lead. Despite some missed opportunities, they were firmly on top across the field.

Any hopes of a Fenor comeback were dealt a major blow just 17 seconds after the restart. Stephen Lucy drove forward from the throw-in, linking with Adam Crawford and Eddie Hynes before Kieran Crawford finished to the net. Shamrocks continued to build their advantage, with Ciaran Lenehan, Eoghan Lenehan, Tom Dalton and Billy Hynes adding scores.

Fittingly, Man of the Match Kieran Crawford struck Shamrocks’ final point to round off a memorable individual and team performance. It was a proud day for the players, management, supporters and everyone involved in the club, as another county title was secured in emphatic fashion. Premier Intermediate football now awaits in 2027—a tremendous reward for the commitment and progress of this group over the past two seasons.
