Junior Football Championship County Final
Shamrocks 2-10 0-11 Butlerstown.
Last Saturday became an historic day for the club after we captured the Junior County football trophy. It means after spending the last 2 years in the junior grade we are now promoted to the Intermediate grade for the 2026 season. In our way of the JJ Kavanagh Trophy stood a dogged and determined Butlerstown side, and from the throw in it was evident that it was going to be no easy task on defeating them. With the aid of the breeze in the first half we had the better scoring opportunities and went in at the break ahead on a score of 1-6 to 0-3, the green flag raised courtesy of Billy Hynes. Against the breeze in the second half we still managed to hold our lead for the majority and defended well against a good Butlerstown forward unit. When Eddie Hynes goaled with 10 mins left it gave us some breathing space to close out the game. The final whistle was greeted by huge cheers from our supporters young and old who travelled to the Shandon venue in huge numbers as always. Commiserations to Butlerstown on a great sporting game. Earlier in the weekend they contested the Junior C County football final which shows they are a club going the right direction and no doubt will be there or thereabouts for next years championship.
A huge appreciation to our supporters who travelled and cheered our lads on all year.
A huge well done to players and management who can now look forward to a Munster Championship fixture.
Special mention to Stephen Lucey for giving a captains speech that the great Joe Connolly would have been proud of!!!!
Munster Championship.
As of time of writing, the time, date and opponent of our Munster Championship game is unknown. Please stay tuned to club social media pages.
Best of luck to neighbours Tallow this weekend against Garryspillane in the Munster Intermediate championship.
