Club Notes: 18th March 2013

Scor na nOg.
Our all-girls set took to the stage last Friday night in Knockanore and competed against sets from Mellary and Ballyduff. Congratulations to all the girls for dancing beautifully and securing a place in the county final in Cappoquin next Sunday. Well done to Faelen Richards, Catherine Hynes, Caoimhe Casey, Clodagh McArdle, Joanne Lonergan, Abbey Morrissey, Jessica McSweeney, and Aobhla Motherway.
Our mixed set were in action on Saturday night in the Town Hall, Dungarvan, and were up against strong sets from Sliabh gCua and Ballyduff. They gave a great performance also to secure a place in the final, and this takes place in the Community Centre, Cappoquin, this Sunday at 6pm. Well done to Mark Stewart, Mairead Lucey, Jack Sliney, Rebecca O’Keeffe, Liam Motherway, Anna Stewart, Ivan O’ Neill, and Rebecca McSweeney. Best of luck to all our dancers in the county final, and well done also to their tutor Mary Casey who has done trojan work with them all.
Congratulations also to Oisin Ormonde who secured his place in the final of the Recitation Section, and to Mark Stewart who qualified for the final of the solo singing competition. Best of luck to all our competitors in the final next Sunday.

Draw held on 16th March, numbers drawn were 5-6-22-27, and there was no winner of the €7,900 jackpot. €20 winners were Aidan O’ Lomansey, Eamonn Forbes, John & Chloe, Michael Geary, and Flor Harnedy. Next week’s jackpot will be €8,050.

Deise Draw.
The first Deise Draw will take place on the last Friday of March in Ballymacarbery. First prize is €10,000, and a large chunk of the €10 per month tickets go to the participating clubs, so it’s a great fundraiser for the clubs as well as the county board. Tickets can still be obtained from any committee member.

Team post.
Our first match in this year’s hurling league will take place next Sunday away to Fourmilewater at 11.30. This is a tough opener in the league as Fourmilewater gained promotion to Intermediate status last year and we are expecting a serious challenge. Our preparation has been going well, and we played a very lively practice match against St. Mary’s last Sunday which we won by two points coming from 7 points down at half time in a high scoring game against a lively Touraneena outfit.

Tony Mansfield R.I.P.
Waterford Gaeldom lost one of it’s favourite sons last week with the sad passing of Tony Mansfield. A staunch Abbeyside/Ballinacourty clubman who held the position of chairman in the club for many years, Tony held a variety of high profile positions within Waterford G.A.A. and was manager of the Waterford U-21 hurling team that won the All-Ireland back in 1992. He was also an accomplished G.A.A. correspondent, and his presence will be sorely missed. We extend our sympathies to Tony’s family and friends from all at na Seamroga. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
