Club Notes: 24th March 2013

Club Lotto.
The numbers drawn in last Saturday night’s draw held in the Shamrock Inn were 6-11-23-25, and there was no winner. €20 winners were Ann Guiry, Bart O’ Donoghue, Pat Kerby, Bertie Hickey, and Alan Giles. Next week’s jackpot will be €8,200.

Hurling League, Fourmilewater 0-5, Shamrocks 4-10.
Our Intermediate hurlers played their first league game last Sunday away to Fourmilewater. After a very lively match we came away with a well deserved win. Playing against the strong breeze in the first half we settled into the game quickly and when Cathal Herlihy set up Liam Dalton for a well taken goal we went in at halftime leading 1-4 to 0-3, Shane Roche, Tommy O’ Donovan and Padraig Tobin also scoring. We continued to dominate in the second half, and further goals (2) from Keegan O’ Farrell and Colm Roche who was making his debut in a Shamrocks jersey saw us past the post. The only sour note was the totally undeserved sending off of Shane Roche who didn’t pull a dirty stroke in the whole match. We all know that refereeing is not an easy job, but sending a man off for nothing doesn’t endear certain referees to anyone. Suffice to say that man won’t be getting any Christmas cards from this parish any time soon. Wedding Bells.
Congratulations to popular player Dan O’ Neill who tied the knot with Martha Allen last Friday week. Wishing you both many years of happiness together, and may all your troubles be little ones! Congratulations from all in the club.

Kevin Allen R.I.P.
post of the sudden and untimely death of Kevin Allen, Tircullen, which occured last week, spread around the parishes quickly. Part of a large family who were involved with Shamrocks in it’s early years, Kevin’s interests also included horses in which he was involved in all his life. We wish all his family and friends our deepest sympathies from all at the club. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
